In South Vosges, lots of peat bogs take up old glaciated
valleys uphill from constrictions from ice era.

The mountains' crystalline nature, and also the rain falling profusely on the western
slope of the peaks' line, furthered acid lakes appearance which were gradually colonized,
and filled by sphagnum moss, and then by different other plants.
