Lecanopteris darnaedii Central Sulawesi

What's new?

L. holttumii A wonderful highland plant. Older specimens have a waxy layer which gives them a slightly blueish shine. The species can easily distinguished from the similar L. darnaedii by the arrangement of the...

L. lomarioides Lecanopteris lomarioides is characterized by a mass of hollow "arms" and bubbles formed by the rhizome. These are inhabited by ants in the wild.

L. spinosa Probably the most beautiful of all Lecanopteris species. The rhizome has a cream color that turns blackish with age. It is covered by rigid spines. Note the typical undivided leaves, a characterist...

L. carnosa There seems to be some confusion about the identity of Lecanopteris carnosa in cultivation. Plants from Sulawesi are characterized by spiny outgrowths as seen in the pictures. Such structures are n...

Lecanopteris - Antferns Little known by horticulturalists, this small Genus consists of a few species that live associated with ants in the wild. The rhizomes are hollow (except for L. mirabilis) and function as nests for...

Nepenthes clipeata - red alert for wild population

Currently we seem to be the only source of true Nepenthes clipeata. This plant, that is almost extinct in the wild is propagated here in quantities that hopefully allow the artificial rebreeding one day. We grow 4 clones of the species, 3 of which are available through our online store. All of them are sold clearly labelled with clone number to ensure that every growers know what they are growing, once the first plants mature and flower. It will be of high importance to start a breeding programme, once it is evaluated which clones are male and which are female. We guarantee for the true labeling of all our plants including Nepenthes clipeata. When considering the number of N. clipeata hybrids around and the danger of the species of becoming extinct in the wild very soon, I regard this as very important. So, though the situation for this plant in the wild is very dramatic, our early efforts of propagating it in vitro and making the clones widely available at a attractive price, might save the species from going extinct completely.

An ICPS project is now aiming to keep the species from extinction.

Who are we?

We specialize in carnivorous plants but also stock some other unusual plants, such as antplants, staghorn ferns and more. We are running our own tissue culture laboratory mainly producing Nepenthes and Heliamphora, both for the large scale market and for our retail business selling rare species and varieties to collectors.
Many species of Nepenthes and Heliamphora, some of which are fairly common in cultivation now, were first introduced into the market through our efforts. Our aim is to introduce new and interesting species every year and making them widely available. Starting to grow Nepenthes and Heliamphora commercially in tissue culture in the late 80's made us the pioneer in this sector.

Species that were first introduced through our efforts into cultivation or made available commercially widely through our tissue-culture laboratory include
